In bringing a multidisciplinary approach to his work, Buchanan frequently combines artistic media in order that meaning may be reflected and refracted. As a writer, he has been published by Continuum Publishing and has been commissioned to write program notes as well as lyrics, libretti, and poetry. His credits asd a visual artist include illustrations for Lantern Books, Continnuum Publishing, and commissions from institutions including the University of Baltimore.
